From her home in Paddington, Vanessa can be crossing a hotel lobby before most guests have even flagged down a cab. Slim and 173 cm, she has long sandy brown hair finished in a soft balayage and hazel eyes that look greener outdoors. She keeps her look understated and coastal: a striped Breton top with cream trousers, a navy blazer, espadrilles in summer and loafers in autumn. In her mid twenties, she is relaxed, low maintenance and quietly polished.
Sweet and curious, Vanessa asks questions naturally. She loves learning languages and always has a new phrasebook on the go, fragrance collecting has made her an expert at guessing what someone is wearing, and cycling is how she explores London on her days off. She hosts in English, gently and with a good sense of humour, and she suits travellers who want an easy evening rather than a production.
Her W2 evening stays close to home. Sheldon Square, the sunken amphitheatre of wide stone steps beside the canal at Paddington Central, is where she likes to meet on a mild evening, watching narrowboats glide past the office lights. From the station it is a four minute walk. After a drink at a canalside terrace nearby, she takes you along the towpath towards Little Venice for a short loop, pausing to guess the perfume of anyone who passes close enough, and delivers you to your hotel before the evening gets late.

Vanessa arrives at 19:00 on foot, a light scarf around her neck and a tiny vial of perfume in her pocket that she asks you to identify. You will be wrong, and she will be delighted.
The walk to the canal takes four minutes. She knows the names of two narrowboats and the cat that lives on one of them. At the terrace she orders in English, then tries a phrase in whichever language she is currently studying on the waiter, who usually plays along. Over a drink she talks about a cycling trip along a river in France and asks where you would go if you had one free week and a bicycle. As the light fades she suggests one more glass rather than two, then a slow loop of the water towards the lights of the basin and your hotel.
