Travel notes
  • Stands 165 cm, curvy
  • Caramel blonde, green eyes
  • Late twenties, down to earth
  • Off duty: Japanese food, hiking, cycling
  • Departs from South Kensington

Green eyes and caramel blonde hair make an easy first impression, and Thea's smile finishes the job. She is curvy and 165 cm, with a sunlit, natural style: a soft denim shirt dress, white trainers she swaps for sandals at the door, minimal makeup and a woven bag that has survived several mountain paths. Late twenties, cheerful and down to earth, she is the companion who makes a guest forget to perform and simply enjoy themselves.

Warm is the right word, and it applies to everyone from the doorman to the waiter. Holidays mean hiking boots, weekdays mean a bicycle, and Japanese food is the treat she plans her week around, from a bowl of ramen after a wet ride to a proper counter supper when there is something to celebrate. She speaks English naturally and cheerfully, laughs at herself quickly and can make a plan feel spontaneous even when she has quietly organised every step.

Her W2 evening starts on two wheels. From the hire bikes at Lancaster Gate she rides a slow loop south through Hyde Park to the Diana Memorial Fountain, the long granite stream near the Serpentine where water runs in ripples, cascades and still pools, and she will insist you dip your hand in. The loop takes about forty minutes at a gentle pace, with the bikes docked again well before the park gates close. Then comes a Japanese supper nearby, gyoza and noodles for sharing, and back to your hotel before ten.

Thea is at home around Hyde Park and the green edges of W2. Let the desk know your hotel and roughly when to start, and she will plan the ride.

An evening with Thea

Thea meets you at 18:00 in trainers and apologises for nothing. She has checked the bike dock, packed two bottles of water and made a short list of three things you must see.

The ride is gentle and she stops often: to point out the swans on the Serpentine, to read a plaque, to let you catch up. At the fountain she dips her fingers in first and laughs at how cold it is. She talks about a hiking route in the Lake District where the cloud lifted at the summit exactly on cue, and asks where you walk when you are at home. Dinner is Japanese, casual and delicious, with a spirited debate about whether gyoza are better steamed or fried. The evening ends by half past nine, happy and unhurried.

Thea, in brief

The Seven Sisters cliffs in Sussex. Take the early train, pack lunch and please do not stand near the edge for photos, however good the light.

Ramen on a Tuesday, a counter supper for a birthday. Both are perfect in their place, and neither one needs a reason.

Most days. It is faster than a cab at rush hour, cheaper, and much, much better for my mood.

This log only grows when a client who actually met Thea writes in afterwards. The desk reads every note before it appears, prints it under a first name and the month of the booking, and never drafts one itself. Empty for now is the honest state.
