Meet Lucy

Travel notes
  • Stands 163 cm, slender
  • Dark brown curls, brown eyes
  • Mid twenties, dreamy
  • Off duty: planets, espresso, running
  • Departs from Pimlico

Curls first: dark brown, long and unruly in the nicest way, framing a thoughtful face and warm brown eyes. Lucy is slender at 163 cm and dresses in coastal bohemian layers, a loose linen shirt over a slip, a long cardigan, silver rings on several fingers and a scarf that smells faintly of sea salt. She is in her mid twenties, a little dreamy on first meeting, and far more observant than she lets on. She clocks the doorman's name badge, the tired flowers on reception and the fact that you have not eaten, and she mentions only the last one.

Artistic and tender by nature, Lucy sketches in the margins of everything and prefers a real conversation to small talk. Astronomy is her surprising passion. She knows which planet is the bright dot over the park tonight and will point it out without a lecture attached. Espresso is a daily ritual taken seriously; running is how she clears her head, usually beside water. She speaks English softly, with a wry humour that surfaces once she is comfortable, which tends to be sooner than you would think.

Her W2 evening follows the canal. From Paddington Basin the towpath runs for about fifteen minutes past moored narrowboats to Browning's Pool, the wide triangle of water at Little Venice where the canals meet, and on a clear night she likes to stand on the bridge there and find Jupiter or Saturn above the rooftops. Before that, a proper espresso nearby and a slow start. The walk back is the same route in reverse, and she will insist on following the water both ways.

Lucy takes daytime and midweek evening bookings around Maida Vale and every W2 hotel within walking distance of the water. Message the desk with your hotel and when to begin, and bring a jacket for the bridge.

Her fare ladder

From Pimlico, Lucy needs about twenty five minutes to reach Paddington, so allow a little extra for a same day request. Two hours, £500, let a canal walk and an unhurried drink fit together.

Every line is quoted in whole pounds and settled with her in cash on arrival. Travel, airport minimums and cancelling are set out on the rates page.

An evening with Lucy

Clear skies change everything for Lucy, and she checks the forecast twice before an evening booking. If it looks good, she meets you at 20:00 with two small coffees in paper cups and a pocket guide to the night sky.

You follow the water from the basin towards Little Venice, twenty minutes of narrowboats, cats on roofs and the smell of someone's wood stove. On the bridge she tilts her head back and names the brightest thing overhead. Then the conversation wanders: a book about the moon she is halfway through, the café in Pimlico whose espresso she rates above all others, the run she will do tomorrow if her legs forgive her. If clouds roll in, she laughs and steers you into a warm bar instead. The evening ends softly, back in W2, with the curtains left a little open.

Lucy, in brief

The Moon, Jupiter, Venus, sometimes Saturn and a handful of bright stars. That is plenty, if you know where to look.

Espresso, short, nothing added, drunk standing at the counter if the café allows it. Sitting down is for the second cup.

Along the canal to Little Venice and back. It is flat, quiet early on and finishes near good coffee.

This log only grows when a client who actually met Lucy writes in afterwards. The desk reads every note before it appears, prints it under a first name and the month of the booking, and never drafts one itself. Empty for now is the honest state.
